Hester Farm Cemetery

This cemetery was surveyed in October of 1971, and unless it has been cleaned since then, it has probably been lost.

There appears to have been many graves in this cemetery, probably 75 to a 100, below is what remains.

According to a letter accompanying this reading from Virginia Carroll dated March 17, 1999........Mr. Jim Pruitt of
California wrote to her about Hester Cemetery.  He said that his grandmother Margaret M Pruitt born May 1, 1838,
died March 15, 1867, was married to William Malone Pruitt July 12, 1854.  Margaret was the daughter of Thomas
and Mary Daniels.  Margaret is buried in the old cemetery that is now on the Hester Farm in Upshur County.  Possibly
and probably Thomas & Mary Daniels are there too.

As hard as we all try, we are human and sometimes when reading a cemetery we miss a grave covered with
leaves, fireants, or bushes. Sometimes the headstone has sunk and is mostly underground. Our area also
has many graves only marked with iron ore rocks and even many unmarked graves. There are headstones
that have long ago been destroyed by the elements or even vandalizm, and are hard to impossible to read
the details. We would appreciate it if you would let us know if you did not find your relative which was buried
here, and would appreciate your letting us use the information you know about them. With the combined
efforts of us all, we can make the Upshur County website bigger and better.
