Seeking info on Levastus McKinney LEE (aka Bass LEE, Vas LEE, L. M. LEE). Born in Johnston Co., NC 1843. To McNairy Co., TN with parents ca1844, to Franklin Co., AR ca 1857. Served in Union Army, 1 ARK CAV. Later, came to TX. In Red River Co.-1900 census, Fannin Co.-1910 census. Children include Alice, Calvin, Nora, Bettie, Elizabeth, McKinnon L., Mandy, Francis M., Lowery, and Martha. Nephews William T. LEE, Monroe LEE, and Charlie C. LEE were also in northeast TX at one time or another (Mt. Vernon, Mt. Pleasant, Winnsboro areas).

Seeking information about the REYNOLDS and BERRY families who resided around Salado, TX. My grandfather, Henry Clyde REYNOLDS (1894-1944), lived with John Riley BERRY and wife Mary Ann Reynolds BERRY at time of 1910 census. His father, Job S. H. REYNOLDS, died there some time after 1900. All are buried in Salado Cemetery. Another brother, James Pinckney REYNOLDS, lived there for a while in the early 1900's before moving to CA where he died. Other related families in the area were ODOM, SULLIVAN. Would be happy to share any information.

Researching the family of John BROOKS who came to Gilmer, Upshur Co. around 1853 with a large group of sons and daughters, slaves, cattle, and others from Paulding County (now Polk County) GA. John's first wife was Elizabeth TOLER or TOLLER. It is believed she died before the family moved to Texas. His second wife was Eliza McFARLAND. Although all these children are not proven to belong to this family, it is tentatively believed they were as follows: Delaney BROOKS RASBURY (1815-1889); John L. BROOKS (1822-1903) (my great-grandfather); Micajah or "Jim" BROOKS (1827-1907); Nancy BROOKS HESLIPP (1829-?); Mary Elizabeth BROOKS CRISP (1832-1924); Eliza A. BROOKS BECK (1835-1867); Rebecca BROOKS MARSHALL BECK (1838-1885); James Thomas BROOKS (1848-1939); Joseph BROOKS (1850-?); and William E. BROOKS (D. 1937). There were probably other children, unknown. The first five were probably born to Elizabeth TOLER BROOKS, the rest to Eliza McFARLAND BROOKS. Does anyone know anything more definitive about the composition of this family? John and Eliza BROOKS died at Cleburne, Johnson County, TX where they are buried. It is believed he was a son of Micajah BROOKS, Revolutionary War Veteran who is buried near Rockmart, GA. I have much more information to share.

My husbands g.grandmother is ella smith. She died in upshur county,Texas. The city was Gilmer or Pittsburg. I am not sure of the date of death. Maybe somewhere around 1930-1950. I would like know if I can access through the internet a copy of her death notice in the paper.

I'm trying to locate information about my ggrandfather, Job REYNOLDS, who was in Upshur County in 1900 census. He was living with his brother, W. P. REYNOLDS. I am particularly interested in finding out the physical location of where he was living at the time. The census lists it as Sup. Dist. No. 7, ED # 120. Would this perhaps be close to the Gregg County line and maybe part of Gladewater? I had lots of family that lived in Gladewater right on Upshur Co line at that time. Surnames: SMITH, GREGSTON, BERRY, BRASHER. Job REYNOLDS m. Sallie GREGSTON in Upshur Co in 1893. They were married by J. B. Hill, J. P. Would anyone know where Mr. Hill might have lived? Sallie's parents were Payne GREGSTON and Mary Jane BRASHER.

I'm looking for information on Mary Alice (Kate) GIPSON, believe she was born in Upshur Co, 10/19/1857, she died in Jack Co. Texas 8/14/1922, She married John Brunswick Risch and they had many children, one of them Lucretia RISCH OTTO was also born in Gilmer, Upshur Co 10/1/1880 and died,(but I am not sure where) 1/31/1940.Any information on this family would be appreciated. Trying to find parents of both Rueben KNOWLES b. 1814 in GA m. 1846 in Harrison Co., TX to Cassie ANDERSON b. 1824 in AL. Rueben was appointed postmaster of Carrolton, Upshur Co., in 1858, 1861, and 1872. Most of his children were postmasters. Rueben was in Texas as early as 1839 in Sabine Co. where he became a Citizen of Texas. Rueben and Cassie are both buried at Leesburg Cemetery, Camp Co., Tx.

Judge John B. FINLEY b. abt 1802 in TN m. in Jefferson, Marion Co., TX to Olivia WAKEFIELD KING b. 1805 in N.C., dau of John KING. Olivia is buried at Old Webb Cemetery in Jefferson, Marion Co., TX and John B. FINLEY is buried Pittsburg, Camp Co., TX. I do not know which cemetery that John is buried. Interested in information on John Allen KNOWLES b. 1856 in Tx marr Adelia (Delia) GOODWIN b. 1857 in MS. Children of John Allen and Delia were, Homer marr. Dora ADKINS, Wilma marr. Oscar BOWEN, Spurgeon marr. Easter HOLIDAY, Perry marr. Retta MASSIE. John Allen was appt postmaster in Ewell and Upshur Co. Moved to Tennyson abt 1907. Owned J. A. The IGI record at the LDS library shows a record of the marriage of my g- g-grandparents, James Polk HAZEL and Virginia HOLT, as having taken place in March 1871 at Lafayette, Upshur Co, TX. I would like to know what the source of this information is. I can't find any record myself. I believe they were Baptist, and they may have been married at the Lafayette Baptist Church, but I don't know. I can find no record of Virginia in any HOLT family in the 1870 census thereabouts. James was from Lavaca CO, but had family in Smith Co. If anyone can help me find this marriage record or can help me find out anything more about Virginia (called Jane?) HOLT, I would be very grateful. James was born in 1848, son of Seth F. HAZEL and Caroline M. BUCKHOLTS.
